lovely on the water

Hunh. Apparently someone in the Yahoo! directory thinks I'm a man. This after being told today by a coworker that the piece I wrote for him today was "masculine".

Should I take canny satisfaction in that I can pass my writing voice off as male when I want to? Is it a talent, or just something I've evolved into after years of stomping around and about in a workplace dominated by male producers and designers?

Whatever it is, I'll be writing Saturday and Sunday to make up for the lack of writing Mon-Friday. At a rate of 750 words per day, that means I need to write 2625 words both days. Shouldn't be a problem.

Swing dancing tomorrow night, dim sum Sunday. My weekend is looking good.

One week of writing: 12% of the first draft done, and I magically lost three pounds. If this keeps up, I may have to celebrate with dim sum.

Also, I learned a new word today: decedent. Who knew!

God, I need sleep.

Book #4 is moving along briskly here at Casa del Goteo, and I should surpass 10% completion tonight. Progress is a lovely thing.

I broke in the midst of a scene last night, something I rarely do, but I was nearing the 1000 word mark, and I'm trying to keep to a rate of 750-1000 words a night.

That's right: it's not that I have a problem pounding out the wordage, it's that I have a problem stopping myself from dropping the word bizomb.

My life is at its best when I am balancing work + writing + sleep/exercise. The moment one of those starts to overcome the others, things get uncomfortable. Writing and Work are two muses that are constantly cat-fighting for attention, like a pair of man-crazy twits on Springer. At the moment, they're under control, and that makes me a happy Steph.

My brain is slushy with thoughts of where to go next with the story. I'm looking forward to tonight's 1000 words.

another chapter bites the dust

Today's darling:

Yum.

I am, myself, firmly in the gummy bacon category of bacony-love. Crisp bacon has a place, but it's only on sandwiches and salads. In all other applications, I want to be able to blow bubbles with my bacon.

Now I'm off to vacuum. Fun.

a new experiment

I have joined a community and I am now Writing a Novel.

For those of you requiring phallic representation of my progress, here it is:

This story is largely based on the massive amounts of work I did on the now-stalled Dead Wicked story. Nothing is ever lost. But I won't be calling it Dead Wicked, because it's not. This is its reincarnation.

I'm always a little shocked when a character proves to have a different voice (to me) than the other characters I've written about.

Or maybe I'm delusional.

Anyway, Jake is fun to write, and now I want orange juice.

I will see you in 3 months (or so) with a novel.
